THE REV. DAVID C. BAKER, PH.D., pPresident and Director

 

The Reverend Dr. David C. Baker is the president and director of the Regional Interfaith Chaplaincy Services, Inc. (RICS).  He is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with nearly 40 years of experience in parish, longterm care, and hospital ministry.

 

During his career, he has served congregations and institutions in Ontario, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.  Most recently he served as Director of the Department of Spiritual Care and Education at Meritus Medical Center.  For the past thirteen years, he has provided worship leadership to St. Peter’s (Beard’s) Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

 

Dr. Baker is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain and Diplomate in Clinical Supervision with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.  

 

In 1988, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Family Science from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and is licensed as a Professional Counselor in Texas.  He is a Fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.  

 

Dr. Baker has taught at the undergraduate and graduate university levels and has conducted and published research about pastoral care with clergy families and with older adults.  He is an appointed Healthy Leaders chaplain for the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the ELCA, in which role her provides support and counsel to rostered church leaders.  

 

His interests include pastoral care to clergy, teaching, and supervision related to pastoral care.  He also enjoys photography and mushroom hunting.  a non-profit ministry serving the tristate area.

 

In 1999, with some chaplain colleagues, Dr. Baker founded the RICS ministry to serve clergy, institutions, and nursing homes in southwestern Pennsylvania.  The ministry functioned actively there until 2014, when the Board of Directors of the Regional Interfaith Chaplaincy Services took measures to qualify the corporation to do business in the State of Maryland.  Required documentation was filed with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation to establish Dr. Baker as the Resident Agent in Maryland.  Since then, he has functioned as the President of the Board and Director of the ministry.
